During
His days of public ministry on the earth, Jesus preached the gospel
to multitudes of people, however He spend the bulk of His ministry
time with just twelve men. These disciples of Jesus received the
full explanation of His teachings and the benefit of personal
friendship with Him. He taught them the Scriptures, mentored them
in ministry, and modeled before them the character of the Father.
The Lord's ordained method for preparing ministries was then and
continues to be the personal investing of one's life into that
of another.
In
the Body of Messiah today we have scores of talented and gifted
people, but we are limited when it comes to seasoned men and women
who model the nature and lifestyle of the Lord Jesus. One of the
greatest deficits in the Body of Messiah worldwide is mature godly
character. Many believers today still need to be taught how to
know the Lord more personally, pray effectively, and study the
Scriptures with the ability to apply God's Word to their lives.

Go
and Make Disciples is a series of teachings that provides
a way to rekindle the Biblical flame for disciple-making. It contains
ten teaching sessions with corresponding personal studies. The
content deals with the commissions given by Jesus, explanations
of true discipleship, characteristics of disciples, and God's
purposes in making disciples.
The
Making of a Disciple and The Lifestyle of a Disciple is a two-volume
study of Matthew 5-7, the teaching commonly called the
Sermon on the Mount. Each volume has 19 teachings with accompanying
personal studies. This series is an explanation of what God expects
of His new covenant people; it is about God's righteousness lived
out in human lives. The Making of a Disciple looks primarily at the character
of a believer, while The
Lifestyle of a Disciple is concerned more with the
conduct of a believer.
We
have found that the best way to use these materials is in small
groups of four or five persons per group. Keeping the groups homogeneous
(women with women and men with men) enables more openness and
vulnerability in open sharing and praying with one another.
The
Holy Spirit has led us into a practical way of fulfilling the
Great Commission here in Israel where discipleship first began.
What we are presenting to you has been time-tested and has proven
effective in developing mere followers of Jesus into true
disciples of the Lord.

If
there is a shortcut to maturity in the Kingdom of God, it is when
mature godly leaders purposefully seek to impart these principles
of discipleship to teachable men and women who want to grow in
the Lord. Although relating to others from a distance may seem
easier and be less demanding personally and emotionally, we must
get alongside believers to be really effective in bringing
sons and daughters into spiritual maturity. We must be willing
to not only give them the gospel of God, but also to impart our
own lives to them. (1 Thessalonians 2:8) That is true
discipleship!
Reuven
and Yanit Ross, the authors of these discipleship manuals, are
based in Haifa, Israel. They have been an active part of Carmel
Assembly since 1994, and have established a continuing discipleship
ministry there. During their years on Mount Carmel, they have
developed these materials and have taught them locally and nationally.
Reuven and Yanit teach on disciple-making and mentoring both within
Israel and internationally. They strongly desire to see many in
the Lord's Body embrace true discipleship and grow in maturity
as spiritual leaders.
